Transforming Kids

Transforming Kids is our specialty service for brains 0-11 years of age.

Across the ages of 0-11 you have so many skills and capacities which are expected to be built and Transforming Kids Clinicians are trained to understand how these skills and capacities are built both for analytical and gestalt processors.

TK Clinicians are trained in Dynamic Assessments to enable assessment to suit the individual’s needs. Using a mix of formal and informal assessments, we analyze skill to understand the challenge and devise intervention to target root causes NOT surface behaviours.

Transforming Kids practices in a bottom up model of service, using a client led or engagement first approach. Although our engagement method is client led or engagement first, our services are targeted and focused to build skills from the bottom up to enable functional skill acquisition enabling spontaneous and generalized skills.

What is Client Led or Engagement First Intervention?

Our University Degree provides us with the ‘how to think like a …’. But it does not train us in the engagement frameworks to analyze and provide intervention.

Child Led or engagement First means we start with their interests and build how we meet our goals into their interests.

WHY? Research has shown that development occurs quicker when it is led by the child instead of instructed by adults. You can learn more via clicking the button below.

  • All TK Clinicians have their university degree and since starting with TK have undergone extensive training in engagement frameworks, sensory integration, bottom up developmental models and dynamic assessment for both analytical and gestalt processors. They not only complete training but also have to demonstrate competency before moving onto further training.

  • Early Intervention is not just below 9 years of age but is also known to be the 3-4 years post recognition of need or diagnosis where an early intervention clinician works with the family to build their knowledge on different development and individualised developmental strategies.

  • Just because you have a diagnoses doesn’t mean you need a set intervention type. You only need intervention for functional challenges which are limiting. You do not need 40 hours of intervention a week BUT you do need a supportive team working with your family to identify and implement individualised developmental strategies.
